Mono-Black Aristocrats by SamusAran

Format: Commander

Commander: Sahir, Visitor in Darkness

Bracket: 2

Deck overview

This is a mono-black life-payment value deck helmed by Sahir, Visitor in Darkness. The core loop is to pay small, repeating chunks of 1 life - via lands like Ifnir Deadlands and Cabal Pit, cards like Dreadhorde Invasion, Phyrexian Arena, Underworld Connections, and activated abilities such as K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth and Wall of Blood - to grow Sahir with +1/+1 counters and convert the second life-loss trigger each turn into card draw. The deck then leverages that life total as a resource: massive mana from Crypt Ghast, Nirkana Revenant, and Magus of the Coffers, life-gain to keep the engine running via lifelink and Gray Merchant of Asphodel, and life-total manipulation through Repay in Kind, Profane Transfusion, and Soul Conduit as alternate win conditions. The backup plan is combat damage from a buffed commander or a transformed Westvale Abbey / Jerren, Corrupted Bishop, with Blood Artist and Falkenrath Noble providing incidental drain.
