Deck overview

This Rakdos midrange deck harnesses Smaug the Impenetrable as an indestructible, flying centerpiece that turns noncombat damage into massive Treasure generation. Supported by dense early ramp and treasure creators like Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer, Kalain, Reclusive Painter, and Magda, Brazen Outlaw, the deck deploys Smaug on Turn 5. Once assembled, self-damage spells like Blasphemous Act, Cut Propulsion, Pestilence, and Self-Destruct deal huge noncombat damage to Smaug without destroying him, creating dozens of Treasure tokens in a single turn. These tokens trigger lethal group-slug payoffs including Mirkwood Bats, Marionette Master, Nadier's Nightblade, and Reckless Fireweaver, or enable alternate win conditions such as Revel in Riches and Hellkite Tyrant. If Smaug is delayed, high-impact backup Dragons like Ancient Copper Dragon and Terror of the Peaks maintain lethal pressure.
