Deck overview

This Orzhov deck combines lifegain attrition, tax-based disruption, and commander-driven card draw under Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel. During the opening turns, the deck deploys low-cost ramp alongside asymmetric stax pieces such as Blind Obedience, Authority of the Consuls, Thalia, Heretic Cathar, and Ashes of the Abhorrent to slow opposing aggression, shut down graveyard lines, and tax mana bases. Once Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel enters on Turn 5, any lifegain trigger converts into massive card draw by paying life. This rapid card replenishment digs into decisive drain engines including Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Marauding Blight-Priest, Sanguine Bond, and Aetherflux Reservoir. The deck also contains an infinite life loop via Famished Paladin and Resplendent Mentor as well as an alternate win condition in Approach of the Second Sun. Robust defensive tools like Grand Abolisher, Flawless Maneuver, and Dawn's Truce protect its critical permanents as it drains the table.
