Hakbal by KiDCady

Format: Commander

Commander: Hakbal of the Surging Soul

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

Hakbal of the Surging Soul is a combat-oriented Simic Merfolk deck that turns explore triggers into lands, cards, and +1/+1 counters. The primary plan is to deploy Hakbal early, build a wide board of hexproof Merfolk tokens from Deeproot Waters, Deeproot Pilgrimage, and Reflections of Littjara, then make the army unblockable with Herald of Secret Streams or Deepchannel Mentor. Momir Vig, Simic Visionary acts as a hidden commander, tutoring Merfolk and chaining creatures. Secondary paths are Epic Struggle and Simic Ascendancy, both fueled by the same counter/token engine. The deck is midrange rather than combo: it needs several turns of explore triggers before it can alpha-strike or trigger an alternative win condition.
