Deck overview

Auntie Ool, Cursewretch rewards the deck for placing -1/-1 counters on creatures. Counters on your creatures draw cards, while counters on opposing creatures drain their controllers. The list supports this theme with Contagion Clasp, Black Sun's Zenith, Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons, Archfiend of Ifnir, The Scorpion God, Midnight Banshee, and Skinrender. It also uses death and graveyard payoffs such as Necroskitter, The Reaper, King No More, Puppeteer Clique, and Grave Venerations. In ordinary play, the deck can assemble its commander and a counter source around turn 6, then generate incremental cards, removal, and life loss. Its main weakness is that the value engine does not become a reliable lethal or lock line. Kulrath Knight can suppress combat after counters are placed, but it does not stop noncreature actions and is not consistently accessed. The deck is therefore a thematic, slower midrange deck rather than a competitive combo or control strategy.
