Deck overview

This deck is an Abzan combat-focused deck built around high-toughness creatures and toughness-matters payoffs, led by Doran, Besieged by Time. Doran provides a dual function: reducing the casting cost of creatures with disproportionate toughness and granting massive +X/+X pumps upon attacking or blocking. Supported by redundant toughness-damage assignment effects like Doran, the Siege Tower, Assault Formation, and Felothar the Steadfast, even low-cost walls and defenders swing for lethal amounts of damage. The deck features a dense spot removal suite to handle opposing threats, alongside potent tutors that ensure key payoffs are found on curve. While the deck boasts high damage output once pieces connect, its low land count of 29 lands demands careful mulligans, and the absence of cheap instant-speed protection leaves its battlefield vulnerable to mass creature sweepers.
