Deck overview

This Dimir control deck utilizes Jon Irenicus, Shattered One to turn symmetrical or self-punishing creatures into devastating liabilities for opponents. By casting creatures with severe drawbacks like Phyrexian Negator, Desecration Elemental, Archfiend of the Dross, and Demonic Taskmaster, Jon donates them to opponents with permanent goad and sacrifice immunity. While opponents are forced to attack one another and endure harsh upkeep triggers or permanent sacrifice penalties, the deck draws extra cards for every attack made with these donated creatures. A robust suite of counterspells—including Fierce Guardianship, Force of Will, and Counterspell—defends Jon from targeted removal, while board tools like Cyclonic Rift and Aetherize prevent retaliation. The deck steadily dismantles opposing life totals and boards through combat infighting and attrition, eventually overwhelming the final player in the 1v1 endgame.
