Deck overview

This mono-black deck leverages Karumonix, the Rat King at the helm of an aggressive Rat tribal strategy augmented by toxic and proliferate mechanics. The deck deploys efficient low-cost Rats in the opening turns, curves into Karumonix on turn 3 to replenish the hand with fresh creature cards, and grants the entire swarm toxic 1. As the board expands, evasion enablers like Cover of Darkness and Piper of the Swarm ensure combat damage connects to spread initial poison counters across the table. Once opponents are poisoned, proliferate engines including Contagion Engine, Karn's Bastion, and Vraska, Betrayal's Sting accelerate the clock alongside wide token explosions from Marrow-Gnawer. Big-mana lands like Cabal Coffers and Three Tree City fuel late-game reanimation spells such as Patriarch's Bidding to sustain pressure through opposing removal.
