It's Thar Time!!! by markuswaters8

Format: Commander

Commander: Ruric Thar, the Unbowed

Bracket: 2

Deck overview

Ruric Thar, the Unbowed is the only commander; there is no double-faced commander, partner, or hidden commander. The deck is a Gruul creature-stompy list that uses mana dorks and cost reducers to land Ruric on turns 4-5, then leans on his vigilance body and noncreature-spell tax to control the midgame. The primary plan is overwhelming trample damage from Ruric plus fatties, usually finished by Craterhoof Behemoth or Beastmaster Ascension. Backup damage comes from Purphoros, Terror of the Peaks, and Molten Gatekeeper, while Combat Celebrant creates a second combat to distribute lethal. Ruric is a stax/pressure piece rather than a true engine, and the deck can still function without him, though slower.
