Garland - Let me take your subjects! by ClyDeft

Format: Commander

Commander: Garland, Royal Kidnapper

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

Dimir control-theft deck. The single-faced commander, Garland, Royal Kidnapper, gives an opponent the monarch, then steals that opponent's best creature whenever that opponent is the monarch. All borrowed "creatures you control but don't own" get +2/+2 and cannot be sacrificed, which is the combat plan. The rest of the shell is repeatable theft and copying: Agent of Treachery, Gilded Drake, Hostage Taker, The Cyber-Controller, and a dense removal/countersuit. There is no hidden double-faced commander; Gyruda, Doom of Depths is a utility reanimator, not an active companion because the deck contains odd-mana-value cards. The deck grinds with card advantage and finishes through a large borrowed team or a late Rise of the Dark Realms.
