Deck overview

This Abzan deck focuses on toughness-matters combat and pillowfort defense led by Doran, the Siege Tower. The game plan deploys high-toughness Wall creatures in the early turns, establishing a formidable defensive perimeter that invalidates opposing ground attacks. Once Doran hits the battlefield on Turn 3, it assigns combat damage using toughness rather than power, turning inexpensive defenders into lethal blockers and making Doran a 5/5 attacker. The deck uses asymmetric board wipes such as Slaughter the Strong and Wave of Reckoning to clear opposing boards while leaving low-power walls intact. A dense fog package and defensive enchantments like Crawlspace and Gravity Well stall opponent combat indefinitely. However, because defender creatures cannot attack without Assault Formation, the deck often relies solely on Doran for commander damage, resulting in a slow win clock that struggles against non-combat and combo strategies.
