Deck overview

This Golgari deck centers on Skullbriar, the Walking Grave, leveraging its unique ability to retain counters across all game zones except hand and library. The primary strategy accelerates Skullbriar onto the battlefield on Turn 1 or 2, using its native haste to immediately start collecting +1/+1 counters through combat. From there, the deck stacks counter multipliers like Branching Evolution and Innkeeper's Talent while dumping keyword-granting creatures such as Titanoth Rex and Daring Fiendbonder into the graveyard with Buried Alive. This quickly builds an evasive, trample-heavy, or indestructible beater that threatens lethal commander damage or infect kills via Phyresis by Turn 4. A rich package of 1-mana protection spells defends Skullbriar from opposing removal, while combat-damage draw engines keep the hand full. The deck eliminates opponents one by one through focused, high-tempo combat damage.
