Deck overview

This deck is a classic Golgari midrange and attrition strategy led by Sarulf, Realm Eater. The primary game plan revolves around casting Sarulf early and using targeted removal, forced sacrifice, and combat trades to fuel its +1/+1 counter growth. When opposing boards develop too quickly, Sarulf can purge nonland permanents to reset the battlefield. Meanwhile, recurring card advantage engines like Morbid Opportunist and Deathreap Ritual keep your hand full of answers and threats. The deck converts this resource advantage into victory through commander damage or heavy token pressure from cards like Rampaging Baloths and Overseer of the Damned. While the deck excels at grinding down creature-based boards, its main limitations are a complete absence of stack interaction, prolonged combat damage clocks, and minimal protection for Sarulf against exile and bounce removal.
