Elves of Witherbloom

Format: Commander

Commander: Witherbloom, the Balancer

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This Golgari Elf tribal deck is helmed by Witherbloom, the Balancer, a 6/6 flying deathtouch Elder Dragon with affinity for creatures. The primary game plan is to deploy a dense board of cheap Elf mana dorks and lords, then cast Witherbloom for a heavily discounted cost. Once on the battlefield, Witherbloom grants all instant and sorcery spells affinity for creatures, allowing the deck to fire off massive haymakers like Decree of Pain, In Garruk's Wake, Rise of the Dark Realms, and Exsanguinate for a fraction of their mana cost. The deck also wins through combat damage with pumped Elves, drain effects from Shaman of the Pack and Poison-Tip Archer, and the activated ability of Lathril, Blade of the Elves. It is a classic elfball strategy that trades traditional tutors and interaction for raw creature density and explosive mana generation.
