Deck overview

This mono-black aristocrats deck is piloted by Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, who serves as a sacrifice outlet, card draw engine, and board control tool in the command zone. The deck converts cheap, recursive creatures and token producers into massive card advantage while keeping opposing creature boards suppressed using -1/-1 counters. The primary route to victory is assembling an undying loop involving Yawgmoth and two undying creatures such as Butcher Ghoul and Geralf's Messenger, or pairing an undying creature with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. Because Yawgmoth's activation places counters that cancel out the +1/+1 counters from undying, the deck loops creatures indefinitely to drain opponents directly or draw into aristocrat payoffs like Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat for a same-turn win. If the commander is answered, high black devotion payoffs such as Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Crypt Ghast provide strong secondary reach.
