Deck overview

This Orzhov deck is a synergistic lifegain and drain engine commanded by Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel. It uses an unusually dense ramp package of sixteen 2-mana rocks to deploy its 6-mana commander on Turn 4. The battlefield quickly fills with low-cost Soul Sisters like Soul Warden and Auriok Champion, which gain life whenever creatures enter the battlefield under any player's control. Niv-Mizzet converts this steady stream of lifegain into raw card advantage by paying life to draw extra cards. Drain payoffs such as Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Marauding Blight-Priest, and Defiling Daemogoth turn every point of life gained into direct damage across the table. High-impact artifacts like Bolas's Citadel and mass reanimation spells like Storm of Souls deliver explosive finishing turns by looping triggers and swarming the board.
