Deck overview

This Azorius control deck uses Volo, Itinerant Scholar and Folk Hero to generate massive card advantage by casting creatures with diverse types. Early turns focus on accelerating mana and deploying disruptive creatures like Lavinia, Azorius Renegade and Esper Sentinel. These creatures record unique types on Volo's Journal, enabling multi-card draw activations for just two mana. The deck controls the game with efficient interaction, tax pieces, and silence effects while drawing into its primary win condition: Hullbreaker Horror or Displacer Kitten. Once assembled on Turn 6, looping two low-cost mana rocks produces infinite mana, bounces all opposing nonland permanents, and draws the entire deck into Laboratory Maniac or Jace, Wielder of Mysteries for a same-turn victory. Even if Volo faces removal, the hexproof Journal stays on board, allowing rapid engine recovery.
