Format: Commander

Commander: Kain, Traitorous Dragoon

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a mono-black "pass-the-parasite" goad/voltron deck built entirely around Kain, Traitorous Dragoon's unusual combat trigger. When Kain deals combat damage, the damaged opponent gains control of him while you draw cards, create Treasures, and pay life. The deck exploits this by suiting Kain up with equipment and "can't attack you" auras like Vow of Malice and Assault Suit, then goading or force-passing the creature so it beats down your other opponents while you profit from every hit. Wins come from commander damage on a single opponent or from the drain finishers Exsanguinate and Essence Harvest. The shell is rounded out by goad auras (Coercive Impetus, Parasitic Impetus), Swamp-scaled equipment (Nightmare Lash, Lashwrithe), and a light recursion package of death-return auras.
