Deck overview

This Abzan deck uses partner commanders Yannik, Scavenging Sentinel and Nikara, Lair Scavenger to lead a dedicated +1/+1 counter and Spike tribal strategy. The game plan focuses on establishing early counter generators and amplifiers such as Hardened Scales, Conclave Mentor, and Doubling Season. Deploying Nikara followed by Yannik creates an engine that exiles modified creatures to distribute +1/+1 counters across your team while drawing replacement cards. The deck scales into large, resilient board states that close games through evasive combat with Abzan Falconer or via an infinite life and infinitely large creature loop with Archangel of Thune and Spike Feeder. Premium instant removal like Swords to Plowshares and Anguished Unmaking keeps opposing threats in check, while asymmetric tools like Damning Verdict clear opposing boards. The deck excels at resource recovery through death triggers, ensuring steady pressure throughout the mid-game.
