Deck overview

This deck is a Golgari midrange strategy centered on Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons, leveraging -1/-1 counters to achieve total creature board control and token swarms. The primary game plan revolves around casting Hapatra on Turn 2 and deploying synergistic counter distributors like Contagion Clasp, Soul Snuffers, and Carnifex Demon to shrink opposing threats while generating an army of 1/1 deathtouch Snake tokens. By Turn 6, the deck establishes an oppressive board lock through asymmetric powerhouses such as Maha, Its Feathers Night and Necroskitter, ensuring opposing creatures cannot survive. The deck finishes games through wide combat attacks backed by aristocrat drain pieces like Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat, or through an infinite loop with Blowfly Infestation. While the deck possesses immense creature suppression and resilient recovery, its lack of nonland tutors and stack-based countermagic leaves it reliant on raw card flow and vulnerable to fast spell combo strategies or mass exile sweepers.
