Deck overview

This Dimir control deck fills its graveyard with instants and sorceries to grow Xande, Dark Mage into a large menace attacker while controlling the board with counters and removal. Xande gains +1/+1 for each noncreature, nonland card in your yard, so cantrips, surveil, and mill also power Haughty Djinn and Consuming Aberration. Secondary wins come from reanimating threats with Dance of the Dead, Necromancy, and Animate Dead, and from value engines like Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant and Thief of Sanity. Jin-Gitaxias acts as a hidden commander, copying your spells and countering opponents. Hullbreaker Horror plus Sol Ring can make infinite mana but has no outlet and costs ten mana, so the deck wins through slow combat, not combo.
