Deck overview

This deck is an optimized Mono-Black Big Mana and Combo Control strategy commanded by Valgavoth, Terror Eater. The deck's primary route to victory bypasses combat entirely by assembling redundant two-card infinite life-drain combos: pairing life-gain triggers on opponent life loss (Exquisite Blood, Bloodthirsty Conqueror) with opponent life loss on player life gain (Sanguine Bond, Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Enduring Tenacity). Early turns focus on accelerating mana through dark rituals, cost reducers like Jet Medallion, and land multipliers like Crypt Ghast and Cabal Coffers. Mid-game velocity is sustained through explosive draw engines including Necropotence, Black Market Connections, and Bolas's Citadel. While Valgavoth, Terror Eater provides an overwhelming 9/9 flying presence that exiles opposing graveyards and casts stolen spells with life, the deck remains fully independent of its commander. Backup win conditions include massive Torment of Hailfire casts and reanimating high-impact Praetors to grind out opponents through asymmetric attrition.
