Deck overview

This mono-black control deck weaponizes Horobi, Death's Wail to turn benign, low-cost targeting abilities into repeatable, instant-speed creature destruction. By deploying innocuous artifacts like Squee's Toy, Tooth of Chiss-Goria, and Baton of Morale, the deck creates an oppressive creature lock as soon as Horobi enters the battlefield on Turn 4. Opposing commanders and utility creatures are removed for zero to two mana, crippling creature-based game plans. Utility pieces like Glaring Spotlight and Nowhere to Run ensure hexproof and ward cannot protect opposing boards. Once board dominance is established around Turn 5, the deck converts dead creatures into victory via drain engines such as Syr Konrad, the Grim and Dingus Staff, or mass reanimation spells like Thrilling Encore and Command the Dreadhorde. Due to Horobi's symmetrical vulnerability and a lack of tutors, the deck trades hyper-fast finishes for relentless attrition and tactical table control.
