Deck overview

This deck is an Izzet spellslinger control deck commanded by Zaffai and the Tempests. Its primary strategy focuses on developing mana through lands and mid-cost mana rocks during the early turns, smoothing draws using efficient cantrips like Ponder, Brainstorm, and Stock Up, and disrupting early opposing threats with low-cost removal and counterspells. Once the deck deploys Zaffai and the Tempests on Turn 6, it immediately leverages the commander's ability to cheat the mana costs of high-impact spells such as Wisdom of Ages, Opportunity, and Planetary Annihilation. The deck transitions into a lethal win condition on Turn 7 by pairing spellslinger burn engines like Guttersnipe with large evasive beaters including The Dawning Archaic and Balefire Dragon. While the deck excels at spell velocity and card advantage, its win condition requires vulnerable creature permanents to survive across multiple turns, leaving it reliant on targeted countermagic and board wipes to protect its path to victory.
