Deck overview

This deck is a high-octane Rakdos Group Slug and Punisher deck commanded by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls. The strategy revolves around deploying dense, low-cost passive damage sources such as Razorkin Needlehead, Roiling Vortex, Underworld Dreams, and Ankh of Mishra to guarantee that opponents lose life during their own turns. Once Valgavoth enters the battlefield on Turn 3 or 4, these life-loss triggers immediately fuel its ability, drawing up to three extra cards and adding three +1/+1 counters each turn cycle. This rapid card replenishment lets the deck easily deploy oppressive mid-game tax enchantments like Manabarbs, Spellshock, and Sulfuric Vortex, suffocating opposing resources while shutting down lifegain. Valgavoth swiftly grows into an evasive commander damage threat that finishes opponents alongside redirected burn from Brash Taunter, Stuffy Doll, and Blasphemous Act, or a sudden Fling.
