Deck overview

This is a mono-black "life is a resource" drain deck helmed by Mortarion, Daemon Primarch. The deck pays life aggressively through K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth, Bolas's Citadel, Black Market Connections, Phyrexian Arena, Greed, and Dark Tutelage, then converts that lost life back into table-wide damage with Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Exquisite Blood, Aetherflux Reservoir, Gray Merchant of Asphodel, and Exsanguinate. Mortarion acts as a payoff rather than a requirement: every end step he turns the life lost that turn into 2/2 menace tokens, which pressure opponents and feed Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, Mirkwood Bats, and Ashnod's Altar. The primary finishes are the Vito/Exquisite Blood infinite-drain loop, the Bolas's Citadel/Aetherflux Reservoir chain, and a big-mana Repay in Kind + Exsanguinate finish.
