Deck overview

This is a classic Azorius stax/control deck helmed by Grand Arbiter Augustin IV, built to bury opponents under a mountain of tax effects while the pilot accrues card advantage and counters the few spells that slip through. The tax suite is deep and redundant - Thalia, Heretic Cathar, Archon of Absolution, Baird, Steward of Argive, Windborn Muse, Ghostly Prison, Propaganda, Aura of Silence, Deafening Silence, Ethersworn Canonist, Drannith Magistrate, and Authority of the Consuls all compound with the commander's own cost hike. Card flow comes from Rhystic Study, Mystic Remora, Esper Sentinel, Consecrated Sphinx, and The One Ring, backed by a genuine free-counter suite in Force of Will and Force of Negation. The deck closes games through flyer beatdown - Absolute Virtue, Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, and Consecrated Sphinx - finished by a double-striking Akroma's Will. There is no fast combo; this deck grinds the table down and wins the long game.
