Deck overview

This deck is a quintessential Rakdos Group Slug engine commanded by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls. The strategy operates by laying down early, low-cost punisher permanents such as Roiling Vortex, Razorkin Needlehead, and Underworld Dreams that guarantee opponents take noncombat damage during each of their turns. Once Valgavoth enters the battlefield, this steady stream of incidental pain triggers the commander's ability repeatedly, granting massive +1/+1 stat growth and drawing up to three extra cards per turn cycle. Backed by oppressive resource taxes like Manabarbs and Price of Glory, the deck severely restricts opposing counterplay and prevents life total stabilization. The mid-to-late game transitions into explosive lethality through damage multipliers like Solphim, Mayhem Dominus, Archfiend of Despair, and Wound Reflection, or by triggering infinite drain loops via Exquisite Blood and Sanguine Bond.
