Deck overview

This is a Simic Merfolk tribal midrange deck helmed by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The core plan floods the board with Merfolk, then uses Hakbal's combat explore trigger to grow the team with +1/+1 counters while ramping extra lands or drawing. Lords, counter-doublers, and evasion (notably Herald of Secret Streams) turn the wide board into lethal combat damage, while Simic Ascendancy offers a non-combat win once enough counters have been placed. Token makers such as Deeproot Waters and Emperor Mihail II keep the swarm resilient, and a dense suite of counters plus protection spells lets the deck play through interaction. Hakbal is the primary engine-team-wide explores plus a free land drop or card on attack-but the 99 still functions as a classic Merfolk aggro-value deck if he is removed.
