Deck overview

This Abzan deck utilizes Anafenza, the Foremost to lead an aggressive Hatebears strategy paired with a +1/+1 counters subtheme. The deck's primary game plan focuses on establishing early tax and restriction pieces that disrupt common multiplayer strategies, such as graveyard recursion, storm turns, and commander reliance. While opponents are slowed down by cards like Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Drannith Magistrate, and Rest in Peace, the deck curves into substantial combat threats including Kyler, Sigardian Emissary, Katilda, Dawnhart Prime, and Champion of Lambholt. The list protects its proactive board state using dedicated utility bodies like Boromir, Warden of the Tower and Jirina, Dauntless General. A compact backup mill elimination line exists with Helm of Obedience and Rest in Peace, alongside Approach of the Second Sun as an alternate win condition. The strategy excels at grinding down fast decks through compounding tempo disparity, but requires careful navigation around targeted removal due to its minimal reactive instant suite.
