Does Battle Of Wits Work? by mwyda

Format: Commander

Commander: Whtz, the Bibliophile

Bracket: 3

DeckCheck Threat Index: 35

Deck overview

This deck utilizes the custom Rulebreaker commander Whtz, the Bibliophile to construct a legal 225-card deck built around the iconic alternate win condition Battle of Wits. Because the starting deck exceeds 200 cards, Whtz taps to draw a card and gain 1 life for zero mana, providing consistent card flow while preserving library volume. The primary game plan seeks to cast Whtz on Turn 3, tutor for Battle of Wits on Turn 4 via cards like Idyllic Tutor or Moon-Blessed Cleric, and resolve Battle of Wits on Turn 5 with more than 200 cards remaining in the library. This threatens a table elimination on the Turn 6 upkeep. A dense suite of Azorius counterspells, spot removal, and sweepers protects the life total and disrupts faster threats, while backup plans rely on mass enchantment reanimation via Dance of the Manse or infinite mana loops with Peregrine Drake and Archaeomancer.
