Deck overview

The Lord of Pain headlines a high-velocity Rakdos group slug deck designed to accelerate the game's tempo while punishing every game action. Rather than starving opponents of mana or cards, the deck floods the table with shared resources through engines like Descent into Avernus, Mana Flare, and Humble Defector, only to weaponize that surplus. The Lord of Pain turns every player's first spell each turn into targeted burn equal to its mana value while completely shutting off opposing lifegain. Layering damage multipliers like Dictate of the Twin Gods and Twinflame Tyrant alongside passive group slug staples like Spellshock and Wound Reflection exponentially shrinks opponent life totals. Goad mechanics from Kardur, Doomscourge and Maximum Carnage keep creature attacks directed away from you while softening defenses. A lean package of one-mana undying spells and stack redirection protects the commander, ensuring the burn engine stays operational until the entire table is incinerated.
