Deck overview

This deck is a competitive Izzet control and combo build helmed by Niv-Mizzet, Parun. The strategy leverages Niv-Mizzet's uncounterable casting and card-drawing triggers to dominate the stack and clear opposing creatures. The deck stalls fast opposing strategies using asymmetric stax pieces like Cursed Totem and Damping Sphere, which shut down creature-based engines and storm decks without interfering with Niv-Mizzet. While controlling the table with an extensive suite of free counterspells including Force of Will, Fierce Guardianship, and Deflecting Swat, the deck digs through its library using high-velocity wheels like Wheel of Fortune and Timetwister. Once Niv-Mizzet is active, enchanting it with Curiosity establishes a deterministic loop of drawing and pinging. With Kozilek, Butcher of Truth recycling the graveyard, the deck deals lethal damage to all three opponents in a single turn.
