Deck overview

This Rakdos deck centers around Smaug the Impenetrable, an 8/7 flying, indestructible, and hasty Dragon that generates Treasure tokens whenever it takes noncombat damage. The strategy leverages high-damage burn spells and self-targeting effects—such as Cut Propulsion, Blasphemous Act, and Star of Extinction—to blast Smaug without destroying it, instantly producing a massive hoard of Treasures. Aristocrat payoffs like Mirkwood Bats, Reckless Fireweaver, and Marionette Apprentice convert the creation and sacrifice of these tokens into lethal life drain across all three opponents. The deck relies on artifact ramp to accelerate into its 7-mana commander by Turn 5 or 6. While its burst damage is explosive and capable of ending games immediately or across one table cycle, the deck lacks dedicated counterplay, protection spells, and tutors, making it reliant on smooth draws and vulnerable to exile-based removal.
