Deck overview

This mono-black deck is helmed by Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, fusing modern competitive black engines with retro nostalgia beaters and control cards. The strategy revolves around deploying Yawgmoth ahead of curve using potent dark rituals and cheap ramp, converting small sacrificial bodies into card draw, board control, and proliferation. While the list eschews standard infinite undying loops, it generates immense resource disparity through stax elements like Braids, Cabal Minion and Tergrid, God of Fright, alongside massive card engines like Bolas's Citadel, Necropotence, and Ad Nauseam. Creature-heavy boards are quickly dismantled through -1/-1 counters and targeted removal, enabling large vintage threats like Juzám Djinn, Sengir Vampire, and Nightmare to close out the game over multiple turns.
