Deck overview

This deck uses The Ur-Dragon as a cost reducer, card-advantage engine, and combat-based cheat effect. Its normal plan is to develop lands and a reducer, cast The Ur-Dragon or access it through Hellkite Courser, then attack with large or hasty Dragons. Each attack can draw cards and put a permanent from hand onto the battlefield. The strongest payoffs are Utvara Hellkite, Terror of the Peaks, Old Gnawbone, Ancient Copper Dragon, and Ureni of the Unwritten. Urza's Incubator, Dragonspeaker Shaman, Rivaz of the Claw, and Shadow in the Warp improve mana efficiency, but many Gates enter tapped and the deck has limited tutoring for its exact pieces. The deck generates strong late-game advantage, especially with The Great Henge, Temur Ascendancy, and Smothering Tithe. Its main weakness is that it usually creates a powerful board before it creates a deterministic win, leaving several turns for removal, sweepers, or opposing combo decks to act.
