Deck overview

This Golgari deck harnesses The Serpent Society to weaponize a dense army of low-cost deathtouch creatures into an oppressive combat and attrition engine. The strategy opens by deploying efficient deathtouch threats such as Squirrelanoids, Typhoid Rats, and Frog Butler before casting the commander on Turn 3. Once assembled, any creature combat or block heavily favors this deck: if an allied deathtouch creature trades or dies, the commander forces every opponent to sacrifice a nontoken creature. Meanwhile, the commander's Ward ability inflicts five poison counters on anyone daring to target it. The deck accelerates its lethal clock through alternate poison enablers like Fynn, the Fangbearer and combat powerhouses like Questing Beast and Ohran Frostfang. Abundant recursion spells like Soul Salvage and No One Left Behind ensure rapid recovery from board wipes. Although vulnerable to mass removal due to a lack of instant-speed protection, the deck excels at dominating creature combat and grinding opponents down.
