Deck overview

This deck is an Orzhov lifegain control and combo deck commanded by Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel. The primary strategy focuses on deploying low-mana lifegain anchors, such as Soul Warden, Authority of the Consuls, and Creeping Bloodsucker, alongside efficient mana rocks. Once Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel enters the battlefield, it converts every lifegain trigger into massive card draw by paying equal life, rapidly digging through the library. The deck controls the board with premier removal spells like Swords to Plowshares, Anguished Unmaking, and Deadly Rollick, while taxing opposing resources with Blind Obedience and Kambal, Consul of Allocation. The deck closes the game decisively through a two-card infinite combo between Exquisite Blood and drain engines like Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Enduring Tenacity, or Starscape Cleric, immediately reducing all three opponents' life totals to zero in a single turn. Independent backup plans including Aetherflux Reservoir and Sheoldred, the Apocalypse ensure lethal closing power even without the commander.
