Deck overview

This Esper life-gain/drain control deck is helmed by Oloro, Ageless Ascetic, who provides a steady stream of life from the command zone and a powerful draw engine once on the battlefield. The primary game plan is to establish incremental life-gain triggers, convert them into card advantage and opponent life loss, and eventually close out the game with one of several infinite drain combos or massive X-spells. The deck leverages a dense suite of draw engines (Rhystic Study, Mystic Remora, Phyrexian Arena) and premium tutors (Demonic Tutor, Beseech the Queen) to consistently find its key pieces. Win conditions include the Sanguine Bond + Bloodthirsty Conqueror/Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose loop, Duskmantle Guildmage + Mindcrank mill-drain, Exsanguinate/Torment of Hailfire for huge life swings, Aetherflux Reservoir after a life-gain turn, and the alternate win-con Felidar Sovereign. The deck is resilient, interactive, and capable of grinding out long games while threatening a sudden combo finish.
