Deck overview

This deck is a dedicated Golgari -1/-1 counters engine helmed by Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons. The strategy focuses on spreading -1/-1 counters across both friendly and opposing creatures to generate an army of 1/1 green Snake tokens with deathtouch. Early turns accelerate mana through low-cost mana dorks and rocks, allowing Hapatra to land on Turn 2 and immediately begin generating tokens alongside enablers like Channeler Initiate and Ammit Eternal. In the midgame, mass counter distribution from Soul Snuffers, Carnifex Demon, and Black Sun's Zenith suppresses opposing creature boards while triggering massive token bursts and drawing cards through Generous Patron and Morbid Opportunist. The deck closes games around Turn 7 using overwhelming combat damage via Beastmaster Ascension, lethal poison counters from Fynn, the Fangbearer, or an infinite aristocrat drain loop powered by Blowfly Infestation and Nest of Scarabs alongside Bastion of Remembrance or Obelisk Spider.
