Deck overview

This deck is an Esper control deck led by Nihiloor that focuses on swapping control of permanents, stealing opposing threats, and donating catastrophic 'bad gifts'. The early game establishes mana rocks and low-cost token generators such as Bitterblossom and Black Market Connections. Once Nihiloor or engines like Puca's Mischief and Jon Irenicus, Shattered One enter the battlefield, the deck trades disposable tokens for the best creatures on the board. In addition to stealing threats, the deck donates debilitating permanents like Steel Golem and Grid Monitor to shut down creature-heavy opponents, or Demonic Pact to eliminate players on their upkeep. Victory is achieved through incremental attrition, combining combat damage from stolen creatures with Nihiloor's life-drain triggers across multiple combat steps. The deck is vulnerable to targeted removal and board wipes that remove Nihiloor and return stolen permanents.
