Deck overview

This Golgari deck is commanded by Zask, Skittering Swarmlord and revolves around Insect tribal synergy, self-mill, landfall, and aristocrats drain engines. In the opening turns, the deck sets up its mana velocity using efficient ramp spells and self-mill enablers like Grist, Voracious Larva and Ripples of Undeath. Once Zask enters the battlefield on Turn 4, the graveyard turns into an extended hand, letting you replay sacrificed fetchlands and repeatedly cast low-cost Insect creatures. The midgame scales explosively with token generators like Scute Swarm and Springheart Nantuko, which synergize with mass land-return spells like Splendid Reclamation. Sacrificing Insects to outlets like Ashnod's Altar or Warren Soultrader triggers Zask's library-tuck mill engine while draining opponents through Zulaport Cutthroat and Poison-Tip Archer. Supported by powerful backup engines like Six and The Gitrog Monster, the deck recovers rapidly from board wipes and overwhelms opponents with insect swarms.
