Deck overview

This deck is commanded by Kudo, King Among Bears, turning the battlefield into a level playing field where every creature has a base power and toughness of 2/2 and gains the Bear creature type. The strategy breaks this symmetry wide open through layer 7c/7d modifications: +1/+1 counters, static anthems, and Bear-tribal triggers. With Kudo in play, cards like Ayula, Queen Among Bears trigger whenever any creature enters under your control, distributing counters and fighting opposing 2/2s. Lifegain engines led by Soul Warden, Essence Warden, and Heliod, Sun-Crowned rapidly grow your team far beyond baseline stats. While Kudo suppresses opposing tall beatsticks, the deck builds a formidable board that pivots into lethal combat steps via Beastmaster Ascension, Archangel of Thune, and Nykthos Paragon. It operates as a resilient synergy deck that can also execute a conventional stompy plan if its commander is removed.
