Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black control engine built around Horobi, Death's Wail. Horobi turns any targeting spell or ability into immediate creature destruction. The deck weaponizes low-cost targeting permanents like Cauldron of Souls, Distorting Lens, Hex Parasite, and Squee's Toy alongside multi-target spells like Touch of Darkness to repeatedly wipe opposing boards at instant speed. To ensure opponents cannot evade removal, anti-protection cards like Nowhere to Run, Glaring Spotlight, Shadowspear, and Arcane Lighthouse strip hexproof, shroud, ward, and indestructible. Once creature development is suppressed, the deck capitalizes on mass death triggers through payoffs like Revel in Riches, Grave Betrayal, Massacre Wurm, and Syr Konrad, the Grim. Because Horobi's trigger is symmetrical, the deck avoids traditional targeted protection and instead relies on non-targeting tools like Veilstone Amulet and morphing Gift of Doom to keep Horobi secure.
