Format: Commander

Commander: Baron Helmut Zemo

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This monoblack deck is helmed by Baron Helmut Zemo, who serves as a high-value engine that fills the graveyard through connive and then copies powerful black spells from the graveyard by exiling cards with sufficient total black mana symbols. The primary game plan is to build early mana acceleration and card filtration, cast Zemo, then rapidly stock the graveyard with heavy black cards. The boast ability (active after attacking) can then copy three of those spells without paying their costs, creating explosive turns that win via huge life drains, token armies, or backbreaking card advantage. Secondary win conditions include drain triggers from Syr Konrad the Grim and Ayara, damage from Gary Merchant, and the inevitability of Vilis it's-fueled card draw. Reanimation supports non-commander threats, and the high devotion for Gary Merchant and Nykthos provides both life swing and mana.
