Deck overview

Hakbal of the Surging Soul leads a synergistic Merfolk kindred deck that translates wide board states into overwhelming combat damage and card advantage. Hakbal triggers explore for every Merfolk at combat, filtering cards into the graveyard, drawing lands into hand, ramping lands into play on attack, and growing the team with counters. The primary route to victory is wide, evasive combat using anthem lords, unblockability from Herald of Secret Streams or islandwalk from Lord of Atlantis, and one-sided sweeps like Raise the Palisade. Alternatively, board-wide explore counters can rapidly trigger a sudden win through Simic Ascendancy.
