Deck overview

This Golgari deck is built around Hazel of the Rootbloom, utilizing token generation, tribal Squirrel synergies, and aristocrat drain engines. In the early game, cheap ramp pieces and low-cost token generators accelerate Hazel onto the battlefield. Once Hazel is established, her end-step ability duplicates tokens—providing double value for Squirrels—while her tap ability converts token swarms into massive bursts of mana. The deck wins primarily through two complementary avenues: overwhelming combat damage powered by mass pump effects like Beastmaster Ascension and Swarmyard Massacre, or lethal table-wide life drain via aristocrats such as Mirkwood Bats, Blood Artist, and Zulaport Cutthroat. Highly synergistic engines like Chatterfang, Squirrel General, Deep Forest Hermit, and Skullclamp ensure consistent token multiplication and card velocity, making the deck resilient and capable of closing out games rapidly once its board reaches critical mass.
