Smaug the impenetrable by mbv

Format: Commander

Commander: Smaug the Impenetrable

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a Rakdos Dragon/Treasure deck helmed by Smaug the Impenetrable, built around a single explosive loop: deal noncombat damage to the commander's indestructible 8/7 body, and each point of damage becomes a Treasure token. The deck packs a dense suite of damage-redirection and self-damage effects - Arcbond, Blazing Sunsteel, Pain for All, Pariah's Shield, Pyrohemia, Pestilence, Self-Destruct, Cut Propulsion - that turn Smaug into a treasure factory. Those Treasures are then multiplied by Xorn and Goldspan Dragon (each Treasure taps for two mana) and converted into lethal X-spells: Torment of Hailfire, Exsanguinate, and Crackle with Power. Alternate wins come from Revel in Riches and Hellkite Tyrant. Secondary dragon beatdown via Cavern-Hoard Dragon, Drakuseth, Maw of Flames, and Wrathful Red Dragon provides a combat fallback.
