Deck overview

This Rakdos deck is a dedicated Group Slug and Punisher engine led by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls. The strategy revolves around turning ordinary game actions—such as drawing cards, tapping lands, or casting spells—into mandatory life loss for opponents. Low-cost permanents like Razorkin Needlehead, Underworld Dreams, and Zo-Zu the Punisher guarantee that opponents lose life on their own turns. This feeds Valgavoth's triggered ability, drawing up to three extra cards per turn cycle while rapidly growing the commander into a lethal flying threat. As the game develops, damage doublers like Solphim, Mayhem Dominus and Twinflame Tyrant alongside oppressive attrition cards like Manabarbs and Painful Quandary accelerate the clock exponentially. Opponents face an inescapable dilemma: developing their boards accelerates their own demise, while inaction leaves them defenseless against Valgavoth's soaring attacks. Supported by targeted removal and board clears like Chandra's Ignition, the deck reliably crushes the table in the midgame.
