Deck overview

This deck is an Izzet Discard Aggro deck led by Captain Howler, Sea Scourge. The primary strategy leverages dense looting, cycling, and discard spells to trigger Captain Howler's power-boosting ability, turning the commander into an imposing combat threat while drawing cards on combat connection. The mana base relies on a high land count supplemented by basic landcyclers to hit land drops reliably on curve, though fast artifact acceleration is minimal. Operational assembly occurs on Turn 5 when Captain Howler attacks alongside a discard trigger. Critical onset arrives on Turn 6 through high-volume discard spells like Wistful Thinking, threatening rapid commander damage knockouts. A suite of low-cost counterspells and protective Auras like Clout of the Dominus shield key attack phases. Without infinite combos or hard lockouts, the deck wins through honest combat damage across sequential turns, finishing opponents by Turn 9 while backing up its plan with large sea monsters and incidental burn.
